Director of Meetings & Conventions Marketing


Description:

As a member of the Marketing Department, the Director of Meetings and Conventions Marketing handles a wide range of programs and projects. Works with the Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, the Marketing team and Sales Department leadership and outside agencies to develop and implement marketing and promotional campaigns and programs to position Baltimore as a premier meetings and conventions destination and to advance the sales process. The Director also works with the Sales Department leadership in developing themes and materials to support tradeshow attendance and sales missions, which includes but is not limited to, creation of customized invitations, promotional materials, themed promotions, tradeshow/exhibit booth design and production, AV, and traditional and electronic mailings. Maintains a current, high quality PowerPoint sales presentation based on existing templates and creates customized versions as required. Collaborates with the Services Department to assist customers in promoting their event and building attendance. Develops and implements customized design and production of marketing assets which includes, but is not limited to, invitations, DVDs, microsite development, convention maps and housing marketing materials. Provides templates for hotel and airport welcome signage, and creates graphics for basic pole banner and welcome signage and coordinates installation. Manages outside resources to develop creative applications in support of campaigns, supervises traditional and digital media buys, PPC and SEO programs and digital media partnerships. Provides reports on the return on investment (ROI) effectiveness of campaigns. Maximizes marketing components of industry partnerships. Serves as bridge between Sales, Marketing and Communications to enhance trade media relations opportunities. Provides reports to senior management as requested. Other duties as assigned. Reports to the Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Management or Graphic Arts. Advanced degree preferred;
  • Minimum of seven years experience in a marketing or advertising agency, corporation or convention and visitors bureau;
  • Creative development and customer or client management experience required;
    Knowledge of meetings and tourism industry and its sales and communication channels preferred;
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office with advanced skills in PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with graphic design, layout and web programs such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign;
  • Must have experience in managing websites through a content management system (CMS) and using HTML 5;
  • Strong communications and writing skills with the ability to interface with customers, members and staff at all levels;
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research and produce reports;
    Must be able to multitask, prioritize tasks and work individually or in a team environment.

Publications and Promotions Manager


Description:

The Publications and Promotions Manager handles a variety of marketing projects, including but not limited to copywriting, publications management and promotions. Writes copy for Visit Baltimore’s website, publications and other projects, and writes scripts for internally produced video or audio projects. Responsible for review of website content and updates as needed. Develops and coordinates action plans for projects to ensure they are completed on time and on budget. Develops relationships with members to support promotions. Provides reports as requested by senior management. Works individually and with the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Advertising and Promotions and the Marketing and Communications team to meet organizational objectives and goals and ensure consistency of messaging in maintenance of brand standards. Other duties as assigned. Reports to the Director of Advertising and Promotions.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field along with three (3) years experience with diverse responsibilities in marketing, advertising, public relations, publications or similar field;
  • Knowledge of meetings and tourism industry preferred; • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and Content Management Systems (CMS) required. Knowledge of HTML 5 programming and Adobe CS preferred;
  • Experience with writing for websites, newsletters, brochures, advertorials or other publications and videos;
  • Experience in managing publications from concept to printing;
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research and produce reports;
  • Ability to effectively present information, lead a meeting or discussion and respond to questions from management, co-workers and customers; and,
  • Strong project management and multi-tasking skills.

Research & IT Coordinator


Summary:

Information Technology: Assists the Information Technology Manager, including but not limited to network, software, hardware installation/maintenance, help desk, passwords, security/data integrity and printer, copier service/maintenance for the entire organization and additional remote offices.

Research:
Assists the Manager of Data Analysis and Information Reporting in providing statistical information in a concise and easy to understand format. Generates regularly scheduled reports and data for consumption by stakeholders including: the public, the Board of Directors, local government, members and the business community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • First line of support when troubleshooting network connectivity, telephony or other IT related issues;
  • Provides support implementing new network solutions, managing infrastructure and maintaining existing systems;
  • Ensures the proper use and functionality of network printers and copiers, troubleshooting errors and repairing/ resorting functionality where possible;
  • Assists staff with help desk support for CRM and Microsoft Office Suite software and products;
  • Assists staff in resetting passwords, User ID’s where possible;
  • Assists staff with CRM database queries and ad-hoc report requests. Provides reports in a concise format and assists with analysis of data;
  • Enforces company policies regarding the CRM database modules requirements for all departments;
  • Coordinates monthly productivity report data collection, verification and dissemination;
  • Reviews documentation under the supervision of the Manager of Data Analysis and Information Reporting and processes status changes in database;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Information Technology and Research Manager(s)

Key Experience and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as economic, research and/or computer technology, with at least one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of experience, education and training;
  • Experience in Windows environments (XP, Vista, W7, Server 2003 & 2008);
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel and Access;
  • Experience managing large data sets, processing support and data requests;
  • Entry computer hardware background knowledge, covering PC assembly and maintenance procedures, logging and fault finding problems;
  • Experience with SQL;
  • Knowledgeable in Mac operating systems;
  • Skilled in several mobile platforms including: Windows mobile, iPhone, Android, Blackberry (including BES)
  • Experience with VOIP and/or hosted phone systems

Marketing Assistant Internship


The Marketing Assistant Internship is an unpaid position that provides the opportunity to receive valuable work experience across multiple disciplines while earning college credit. A successful Marketing Assistant Intern will utilize their understanding of technology, social media, customer service, and marketing to support major campaigns and promote Baltimore as a travel destination.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assist with the marketing activities of promotional campaigns, including print and online advertising, direct mail, and promotional events
  • Assist in the development of all promotional strategies
  • Interact with hotels, restaurants, attractions, retail, etc. members
  • Coordinate the construction of various materials including newsletters, on-line listings, marketing briefs, etc.
  • Research external factors affecting marketing strategies and provide detailed, written reports upon completion
  • Provide administrative support to the marketing team
  • Assist with maintaining and scheduling social media and website updates

Requirements:

  • Must Currently be enrolled in college and eligible to receive internship credit
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Must be available a minimum of 3 days during the work week from 9am-3pm
  • A working knowledge of html is preferred, but not required.

Membership Assistant Internship

The Membership Assistant Internship is an unpaid position that provides the opportunity to receive valuable work experience across multiple disciplines while earning college credit. A successful Membership Assistant Intern will utilize their understanding of technology, social media, customer service, and marketing to support membership campaigns and promote Baltimore as a travel destination.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assist with developing a strategic sales plan to sell memberships to a cross section of Baltimore business.
  • Assist with retention of Visit Baltimore members through phone calls and written communication
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of networking events for Visit Baltimore members
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of education programs for Visit Baltimore members
  • Assist in the development of all promotional strategies
  • Interact with member hotels, restaurants, attractions, retail, etc.
  • Provide administrative support to the membership team

Requirements:

Volunteer Opportunities at the Baltimore Visitor Center


Visit Baltimore is seeking volunteers for the Baltimore Visitor Center located at the beautiful Inner Harbor! Volunteers promote Visit Baltimore members and the city of Baltimore to leisure travelers, conventioneers and groups, as well as area residents. Volunteers are the front-line ambassadors, and are often the first person that a visitor meets when coming to Baltimore. Volunteers promote the sale of tickets to area attractions, and work with paid staff to complete the sale. Volunteers use printed and computer and internet information in their role at the Visitor Center.

  • This position is open to all individuals who wish to assist in promoting Baltimore as a tourist destination. Volunteers who speak foreign languages would also be helpful.
  • Volunteers are asked to commit to work at least 1 four-hour shift per week in the Visitor’s Center during peak season from April through September, or work at least 100 hours during the calendar year. Shifts typically begin at 8:45am, 10:45am and 1:45pm.
  • Our greatest need is on weekends!!
