The Columbus Day Classic is a charity event for the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program (USAWIHP) and St. Elizabeth School (SES) that will take place on October 8, 2016 at 7:15 pm at Reisterstown Sportsplex (401 Mitchell Drive, Reisterstown, MD) which is conveniently located at the end of I-795 in the Reisterstown Regional Park. The event is staffed by volunteers by The Chive Maryland and includes raffles, 50/50’s and the following main events: • Ice hockey game with the USA Warriors Standing Team playing the Baltimore City Fire Department. • Shoot out by Students of SES who play hockey. • During the hockey game the USA Warriors will be wearing themed hockey jerseys for this event that will be sold after the game to further raise funds for both the USAWIHP and SES. The 1st Annual Columbus Day Classic which took place on October 10th, 2015, raised close to $9,000 for the USAWIHP and SES. The USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program has been organized to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, for those wounded in defense of the United States in conjunction with the USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Program. The Program’s mission is to organize and administer an ice hockey program that provides a recreational, therapeutic experience and education. The program educates, trains, motivates, and encourages the formation of “USA Warrior Ice Hockey Programs” locally and nationally while encouraging individuals who have physical disabilities incurred during service to the United States to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to the level of their ability. The USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program, Inc. is staffed by volunteers, on-ice and off-ice mentors, and directors who do not receive any compensation, stipend or other remuneration for their time. St. Elizabeth School (SES) is a nonpublic, special education school located in Baltimore City. SES works with students from all of Central Maryland, ages 6 to 21, in grades 1 to 12, in Elementary, Middle, and High School programs. SES believes in helping students with special needs go the distance. SES serves students with a wide range of disabilities. Their program focuses on the realization of personal potential by integrating academic growth, social/emotional development, functional life skills, and vocational training. They create a community environment that fosters a sense of belonging. Students, faculty and families are committed to the stewardship of a learning environment with these core values: • All people are respected and valued • Every student can learn • Competence, compassion, support and safety are essential • Communication and collaboration are standard practice • Time and talent are given generously in the service of others
