"Find your Park." Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine will present on June 25 & 26 "The Battle Cry of Freedom – a Civil War Weekend." The park entrance fee to the Old Star Fort from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. is $10 per adult (16 years and older), children 15 years and under are free. All National Park Service Passes are honored. The weekend highlight will be a FREE twilight military tattoo on June 25 at 6:00 p.m.

The National Civil War Field Music School will be hosting its annual fife and drum, bugle muster at Fort McHenry! For these two days, the finest fifers, drummers and buglers in the hobby will be performing on the parade ground. Dressed in Civil War uniforms, over 100 living historian musicians will breathe life into the old fort once again resounding with the sounds of drums, fifes, bugles and marching feet.

Weekend Activities include:

• Cannon-firing demonstrations

• Fife and Drum Concerts

• A surgeon's display

• Confederate prisoners and Union guards

Special presentations will highlight the challenge of preserving civil liberties in a time of war as well as the role played by African-Americans from Baltimore during the war. Children's activities include interactive programs and games.

The FREE twilight tattoo on June 25 will recreate Civil War military musical arrangements such as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Dixie," and "The Battle Cry of Freedom." The massing of over 100 fifes and drums will be one of the largest ever assembled at Fort McHenry. At the end of the ceremony, visitors will be invited to join the soldiers as they march out of the Star Fort to fire the evening cannon, ending the evening program.

During the Civil War, Fort McHenry served as a federal coastal defense fort mounting seventy-two cannon, with a hospital and prison for more than 23, 000 captured Confederate soldiers and political prisoners.
