Tracy Melton will discuss the founding of the Hibernian Society in Baltimore by Irish immigrants, many of them exiles from the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Their revolutionary ideology was severely tested during subsequent decades as Irish immigration included more Catholics and a strident, nationally significant strand of anti-Catholicism developed.
