A public event, "LZ MARYLAND" is a welcome home and salute to the region's Vietnam-era veterans.

It occurs on Father's Day weekend at the MD State Fairgrounds in Timonium and features a helicopter flyover; displays of military vehicles and aircraft of the era; the stirring conclusion of a motorcycle "Honor Ride" featuring Vietnam veterans and veterans of other wars as a salute to fallen and missing service members; the display of The Wall That Heals, the traveling half-size replica of D.C.'s Vietnam Veterans Memorial; a walk-on and sign-on Tour of Duty 120x100 ft. map; on-site displays of Vietnam-era military gear and equipment; a mobile Army surgical hospital (MASH) unit; name national entertainment (The Lovin' Spoonful, The Association, The Motortown All-Stars) performing music from the Vietnam years; a boot camp and educational activities for children; and solemn ceremonies to salute those Marylanders who were killed or missing in combat.

The public is encouraged to attend LZ MARYLAND. All veterans/active-duty military/Gold Star families are admitted free of charge; a nominal $5 fee applies to others over age 12. Free and paid tickets can be ordered online now at
