April 06, 2016

Since the founding of our republic, federal architecture has sought not only to house governmental functions but to reflect the democratic values of the nature and the aspirations of its citizens. In 1994, the General Services Administration sought to reinvigorate such noble ambitions and created the Design Excellence Program to produce America’s future landmarks by the country’s finest architects, designers and artists. Former program director Thomas G. Grooms will discuss the origins, evolution, challenges and results of this award-winning initiative.
