Around Maryland
Expansive, picturesque and filled with history, the state of Maryland is known for its warm people and verdant landscape. From sand and shore in Ocean City to streams and mountains in Cumberland, the state of Maryland is a place of physical beauty and cultural vitality. Museums, historic sites, shops, family-fun attractions, great restaurants, festivals and romantic getaways—in Maryland, there’s something for everyone.
In Maryland, stories of people from every background and culture are told in the state’s museums, parks and trails. The Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore tells the story of Native Americans who called Maryland home long before Europeans arrived in the 16th century. The Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center on Maryland’s Eastern Shore celebrates the amazing woman who risked her life repeatedly to guide American slaves to freedom. This path to freedom is detailed along a 64-mile Maryland Byway called “Harriet Tubman’s Underground Railroad.”
