Baltimore, MD (December 19, 2014) - Visit Baltimore, the official sales and marketing organization for Baltimore, announced today the formation of a new charitable arm – Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation. The Foundation’s objectives are to promote workforce development in the tourism sector and to initiate, facilitate and support heritage, cultural and/or multicultural tourism programs, events and public awareness campaigns that educate the public about our City’s unique history and assets.

A large focus of the Foundation’s mission is to fund educational, training and professional development opportunities for local residents, from students pursuing relevant degrees at Baltimore area institutions to those currently employed in the industry and seeking to gain additional skills. The Foundation’s scholarship and educational programs are currently in development. The Foundation hopes to announce full program details and deliver its first scholarships in calendar year 2015.

“These scholarships will encourage local citizens to think about careers in Baltimore’s hospitality and tourism fields,” said Noonan. “But this activity will also benefit the City on a whole. By nurturing a well-educated and diverse tourism workforce, we are enhancing the experience of all visitors to Baltimore and strengthening one of the region’s core industries and economic engines.”

Allison Burr-Livingstone was recently promoted to Executive Director of the Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation. Burr-Livingstone will manage the business and affairs of the Foundation and, working with a Board of Directors, provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of its mission, strategies and annual goals. Burr-Livingstone is also the Director of Government Affairs and Communications for Visit Baltimore. She brings to this new position a background in nonprofit development and fundraising including former positions with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

The Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3), publically supported charity.  The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors providing oversight of scholarship and fundraising efforts as well as input as to its strategic direction.
