Romantic Getaway

DAY ONE

Some of the most famous lovers in the world have lived in Baltimore-such as Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald and Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. Even King Edward VIII gave up the throne for the girl he loved: Baltimore's Wallis Warfield Simpson. Of course, there's also Jerome Bonaparte, who gave up Baltimore's Betsy Patterson for the throne he loved and the brother he feared.

What could be more romantic than a night or two in a cozy out of the way bed and breakfast or a hotel room with a view of the harbor? Check out the romance packages in the Inner Harbor at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Pier 5 Hotel & Brookshire Suites, the Harbor Court Hotel, or at The Admiral Fell Inn in historic Fells Point. Plan ahead by ordering flowers or chocolates to be delivered to your room.

After settling into your room, get ready to enjoy a fabulous dining experience overlooking the Inner Harbor at Pisces or Charleston--or choose a quiet candlelit corner at the Brass Elephant, Tio Pepe Restaurant or Kali's Court. After dinner, celebrate your love on the 13th Floor of the Belvedere Hotel to jive of a swing band. If you like a variety of nightlife experiences, head over to historic Fells Point where the music and crowd changes from pub to pub.

DAY TWO

Start your day with a narrated "Land and Water" tour on Ride the Ducks. You'll start your tour on land where you'll explore area neighborhoods and their histories. Then sail into the harbor and learn the history of Fells Point, Canton, Federal Hill, Fort McHenry, and the old Domino Sugar Factory.

Ed Kane's Water Taxis give you the freedom of an all day pass to almost all of Baltimore's museums and attractions. Motor over to Federal Hill and walk over to the Cross Street Market, the heart of this neighborhood, which opened in 1846. You can find everything from fresh flowers to a bottle of wine to sushi or fresh fish to a beer from a local brewery. Shop in one of the antique or specialty shops in the neighborhood, then sit at the top of Federal Hill, offering the best view in Baltimore, and relax or sneak a kiss.

Stroll down to the American Visionary Art Museum, a one-of-a-kind gallery of original works of art created by self-taught artists. The taxis will also take you to the Baltimore Museum of Industry, Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, historic Fells Point, and all around the harbor. While in Fells Point, stop by the Visitor's Center to get acquainted with the neighborhood, and then enjoy the sunset while strolling along the cobblestone streets.

A romantic Italian feast is in order if you head over to Little Italy, just west of Fells Point. Lined with fabulous restaurants, historic Little Italy offers a cluster of colorful eateries, from formal to casual, that attract visitors and celebrities from all over the country.

Consider a night at the theater with a show at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, a major stop for national touring companies and a great value for pre-Broadway productions. Or, check out the many wonderful sights and sounds at the Baltimore Opera, Baltimore Theatre Alliance, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Center Stage, or the Everyman Theater.

Romantic Day Trip

Just a short drive out of the city, you can find Linganore Winecellars—Berrywine Plantations, and enjoy an afternoon of tasting estate vintages, fruit, and honey wines. Outdoor music fests, events, and picnics make it a fun-filled day.
