Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum
Literary legend Edgar Allan Poe has left a permanent mark on Baltimore; even the name of our football team – the Ravens – is a nod to the author’s most famous poem. So naturally, Baltimore is the place to participate in the ultimate “Poe experience.” First, stop by the Enoch Pratt Free Library in the heart of downtown to get an exclusive look at its exciting Poe collection, featuring one-of-a-kind, rarely seen artifacts – a lock of his hair, a piece of his coffin, letters and documents from the family’s private collection and more. Learn about the epic life of Poe, from his troubled childhood to his mysterious death in our city. Next, travel to the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum, an important National Historic Landmark where Poe lived in the 1830’s. Walk on the same floors and stairs as Poe, see more one-of-a-kind artifacts and learn about the life of Poe beyond his popular writings. After you leave the city, don’t forget to share your knowledge and keep the tale of Poe’s legacy in Baltimore alive. The experience also includes an optional visit to Poe's Grave in the Westminster Hall Burying Ground.
