There’s nothing moms love more than sleeping in and waking up to a spotless house on Mother’s Day. But aside from a break from cleaning and chauffeuring, we’d be willing to bet that what mom really wants for the holiday is a day off from her duties as executive chef. So grab a bouquet, seal up a Hallmark card, and make a reservation at any one of these local restaurants to enjoy a special family meal on May 14.

Aldo’s

Chef/owner Sergio Vitale is whipping up some seasonal specials at his Little Italy spot for the holiday, including brioche French toast, crab cake benedicts, and a hearty steak and eggs dish incorporating seared filet mignon, caramelized onions, and a farmstead egg. The jazz brunch will also highlight and expansive mid-morning cocktail list and complimentary gifts for all moms.

Alexandra’s American Fusion

With its artsy light fixtures and interior greenery, the inviting atmosphere of this massive restaurant at Turf Valley Resort makes it an ideal pick for brunch with the family. Enjoy a bottomless buffet with options like steamed Old Bay shrimp, rosemary-crusted prime rib, grilled marinated vegetables, customizable omelets, Belgian waffles, and chocolate peanut butter cake.

The Boathouse Canton

Enjoy the sweeping waterfront views while celebrating mom at this dockside destination. The Boathouse will be serving a four-course brunch menu showcasing assorted breakfast breads, chilled gazpacho, Greek omelets, classic chicken and waffles, and Chilean sea bass with rice noodles. Bartenders will also be mixing up signature beverages for the occasion—like a surf and turf Bloody Mary topped with shrimp and bacon, and an Air Mail cocktail with dark rum, lime, mint, and lemon verbena.

Blue Hill Tavern

A prix-fixe brunch menu will be featured at this Canton mainstay in honor of mom’s special day. Start the meal off right with spring-inspired appetizers including watermelon and arugula salad and gnocchi with a roasted vegetable sauce. Other highlights include pork tenderloin, red snapper with roasted garlic mash, and blood orange sorbet for dessert.

Cosima

Take in the rustic ambience while feasting on Sicilian specialties at this spot tucked away in Hampden’s Mill No. 1. Executive chef Donna Crivello is preparing a three-course prix-fixe brunch complete with strawberry spinach salad, cantaloupe and prosciutto, cinnamon-apple French toast, roasted pork belly with arugula and pickled pears, and ricotta cheesecake with candied oranges. To make the meal extra special, ask to be seated on Cosima’s picturesque patio next to the rushing Jones Falls.

This fancy favorite inside Mt. Vernon’s Ivy Hotel is ideal for special occasions. Dress in your Sunday best and enjoy the modern décor while sampling dishes off of chef Mark Levy’s three-course Mother’s Day lunch menu. Plates to look forward to include asparagus salad, Korean-style flank steak, and goat caramel crème brûlée crafted with locally sourced goat cheese. Plus, The Ivy will be offering its complimentary daily high tea service—which is typically exclusive to hotel guests only—to all moms who visit the restaurant.

The Milton Inn

This stalwart spot housed inside an old fieldstone building in Sparks exudes classic charm. The menu also highlights favorites like French toast, Cuban mojo chicken, and a crabmeat omelet with hash browns.

You can’t go wrong with a brunch buffet, and this neighborhood hangout is preparing a seasonal spread for mom to get her fix. If you’re hoping to do something a little more interactive with mom, claim a spot at this festive cooking class led by seasoned chefs Amy von Lange and Jerry Pellegrino at their Mt. Vernon headquarters. Throw on an apron to learn tips and tricks from the experts while preparing beet-cured salmon, pan-roasted chicken breast over creamy polenta, and lemon panna cotta with strawberry-basil compote.

Sweet 27

With a multicultural focus, the menu at this beloved cafe and bakery on the border of Hampden and Charles Village has something for everyone. On Mother’s Day, indulge in a three-course brunch with gluten-free goodies including empanadas with mango salsa, Asian-style mussels with coconut curry, steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves, and Bombay chicken over rice. As the eatery’s name suggests, end on a sweet note with chocolate tiramisu cake, lemon cheesecake, or a mixed berry streusel tart.

The Turn House

The inaugural Mother’s Day brunch buffet at this new Columbia concept will showcase the restaurant’s love for local ingredients with offerings like an oyster bar and carving station with roasted ham. The kitchen—under the helm of Howard County native Thomas Zippelli—will also churn out waffles, bacon, and an array of house-baked croissants, biscuits, and tarts.

Wicked Sisters

This Hampden newbie is also celebrating its first Mother’s Day with a selection of brunch bites including bagels with lox, cinnamon-sugar bread, a waffle sandwich topped with eggs and maple bacon, and a vegan tofu breakfast bowl. The restaurant—along with its sister-spots Alexander’s Tavern, Papi’s Tacos, and Huck’s American Craft—will be giving away a complimentary plant and a “Mom-osa” to all moms in celebration of the holiday.
