Carl Filipiak started playing guitar in the ‘60s, at the beginning of Beatlemania and soon afterwards discovered Pat Martino and George Benson. His entrance into the world of jazz came through studying with Buddy Rich’s guitarist, Walt Namuth. Over the years Carl has recorded and performed with many prominent musicians like Dennis Chambers, Victor Wooten, and Bob Berg. His own recordings for Geometric and Art of Life Records have been reviewed in Billboard, Guitar Player, and Jazz Times and those recordings were also featured in televised events for NBC Sports, Turner Broadcasting and the Olympics.
His diversity and love of all genres finds him in various musical endeavors, one of his projects is a jazz quartet with Paul Hannah on sax, Robert Shahid on drums, and Matthew Everhart on acoustic bass. Their set list includes songs written by Carl Filipiak and Paul Hannah, as well as a few tunes from the American songbook and the Beatles. The Quartet had a monthly club residency for five years which was cut short by Covid-19. During that time they’ve been in the studio working on another album for Art of Life Records and are just starting to perform live again. Their first gig is at the Keystone Korner in their hometown of Baltimore, MD.
