Charles Rahmat Woods & Friends Tribute to Roy Haynes

Join Charles Rahmat Woods and a swinging group of musicians at An die Musik Live as they pay tribute to the late, great Roy Haynes!

The great drummer and bandleader ROY HAYNES recently passed into ancestry. His originality and innovative techniques pushed the creative expressions of modern drumming to unmatched heights with so many of the ‘Jazz Giants’ that he shared the stage with. His music, wit and wisdom, shared so freely with his friends, fans, and bandmates, stands in testimony of this NEA Jazz Master’s embrace of humanity. Join us as we salute this great musician and drummer extraordinaire. Five For Roy! This is a concert for all ages.

CHARLES RAHMAT WOODS, flute/saxophone/bandleader/recording artist, has performed with Roy Haynes, Helen Humes, Don Cherry, Tarika Blue, Conjunto Peligro, Jean Paul Bourelly, David Ornette Cherry, Lafayette Gilchrist, Bobby Thomas Butterfly Band, Mosaic of Sound, Dawn Avery and Larry Mitchell, and other great artists. His latest CD release is entitled “Blues For Martyrs.”

WILLIAM GOFFIGAN, drummer, studied at Antioch College, and at Rutgers under the great drummer Freddie Waits. He has toured and performed with piano great Horace Silver, performed with Gary Bartz, Frank Foster, Pepper Adams, Groove Holmes, Ted Curson, and many more. He currently is a multi-percussionist for Towson University Dance Department.

JOE LINK, drummer, is a longtime instructor of percussion and ensembles at Washington DC’s Sitar Center for the Arts. He has performed with New Zealand’s premier Roger Fox Big Band, Jazz-E!, The Butterfly Band of Baltimore, and others.

LENNY ROBINSON, drummer, is Philadelphia born and Baltimore raised. He attended Morgan State University and Peabody Conservatory of Music before embarking on an illuminating music career. He has played with many artists who were at the top of their professions including Ahmad Jamal, Roy Ayers, Archie Shepp, Buster Williams, Roy Hargrove, and a host of others.

PETER FRASSRAND, piano, hails from Detroit Michigan, is a longtime resident and educator in Maryland, and performs in a wide range of Jazz categories.

EMORY DIGGS, bass, is a native of Oxon Hill Maryland, and performs with a number of top Jazz and blues ensembles in the DMV.
