LinkedIn Local Baltimore Mental Health Culture

Join us on Wednesday, February 15 at the Loyola University Maryland Humanities Center for our first #LinkedInLocalBaltimore event of 2023…

About LinkedIn Local
#LinkedInLocal is a meetup concept in over 800 cities world wide. It was created with the purpose to unite people from all walks of life, in one facilitated event, to genuinely get to know the humans behind the LinkedIn profiles, and connect beyond the job titles, business cards and company names. These events are curated to bring our tribes together and remind ourselves why it’s important to connect out of the digital world. How our job titles, degrees and backgrounds are just a fraction of who we are and that we have the capacity to be more and to do more when surrounded by the right people.

What to Expect at This Event
This year the World Health Organization released a scientific brief that stated in the year 2020, global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25%. According to a study by Mental Health America, 19.86% of adults (equivalent to nearly 50 million Americans) are currently experiencing a mental illness. 286,000 adults in Baltimore City and Baltimore County (equivalent to 4 full Raven’s stadiums) have a mental health condition. Any Mental Illness (AMI) is defined as having a diagnosable mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder, other than developmental or substance use disorder. AMI includes persons who have mild mental illness, moderate mental illness, and serious mental illness. In recent years, mental health awareness has had a new awakening, and all of us are likely to know someone who may be struggling. At our first LinkedIn Local Baltimore event of 2023, Mental Health Culture, we invite you to listen, learn, and experience the topic of mental health.

During this event you will hear from Nhu Nguyen, Associate Vice President & Creative Director at Fenton and Owner of Brand Nhu Creative as she shares her mental health journey, navigating life with anxiety and depression as a disabled AAPI immigrant with ADHD. Joined by Nhu will be Greg Hoplamazian, Associate Professor and Academic Director of the Emerging Media Program (M.A.) at Loyola University Maryland Department of Communication who will moderate the conversation, and share insights on mental health awareness with the role it plays in the communications industry. Together, Nhu and Greg will discuss what it means to confront your own mental health and take action in helping not only yourself but others as well.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Metropolitan Baltimore Chapter.
