Nature Connections: Worms

Nature Connections help you and yours explore and connect with nature.
https://marylandnature.wildapricot.org/event-4777392

Let’s open up a can of worms and find out what happens.

Aristotle called worms the intestines of the earth. Worms are invertebrates. They don’t have a backbone. They have long cylindrical tube-like bodies with no limbs and no eyes (mostly). They live in marine environments, fresh and salt water, in burrows within the soil and in animals, like us as parasites. They range in size from microscopic to humongous. Did you know that the largest species of earthworm, Microchaetus Rappi’s average length is about 1.36 m, but can be 6.7 m long!

The three groups of worms are:

Platyhelminthes – flatworms, tapeworms and flukes.
Nematoda – threadworms, roundworms and hookworms.
Annelida – earthworms and bristle worms of the sea.

The program is free, but for planning purposes, we ask that you RSVP.
