Overcoming and Becoming: A Women's History Month Reading
In celebration of Women’s History Month, Overcoming and Becoming brings together the powerful voices of authors from Yellow Arrow’s kitalo and AMPLIFY at Bird in Hand. This event will feature Diane Macklin, Caroline Bock, Laura Taber, Cherrie Woods, and Lish Ciambrone.
Kitalo (a Luganda word meaning deep sorrow or grief) speaks to themes of loss, remembrance, and resilience.
Amplify represents the act of making voices heard, particularly those often marginalized or silenced.
This event will explore how poetry can serve as a tool for resilience, providing a soft ground for mourning and reflecting. Through readings and discussions, authors will share work that navigates personal and collective experiences, emphasizing the necessity of amplifying women’s stories. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the poets, and celebrate the beauty, depth, and power of women’s voices in poetry.
