On Sunday, February 26, Sonido Solar makes their Keystone Korner debut and celebrates the release of their internationally-acclaimed debut album, Eddie Palmieri Presents Sonido Solar.” The performances will feature special guest and world-renowned trumpeter, educator, and Baltimore resident Sean Jones.
Led by Louis Fouché, Jonathan Powell, Zaccai Curtis, and Luques Curtis, Sonido Solar’s debut album is a thrilling passage across the Afro-Cuban jazz songbook, bringing together decades of musical collaboration under the guidance of 10-Grammy winner and Latin music legend Eddie Palmieri. The band name Sonido Solar translates to Solar Sound and is a tribute to Palmieri, who is known as The Sun of Latin Music. Palmieri is featured on the debut album as a special guest on two tracks.
Throughout Palmieri’s illustrious 70+ year career, he has cultivated younger generations of musicians with a famously keen eye for talent, and Sonido Solar features members of the current generation of Palmieri’s ensembles.
Downbeat Magazine rated Sonido Solar’s album at a stellar 4.5 out of 5 stars: “In their hands, the tradition feels both safe and newly invigorated… the rising of the next sun.”
Be prepared for the exciting, danceable rhythms of salsa and Afro-Caribbean music, tasteful arrangements, and world-class improvisation!
