Virtual Movie Night: "A Man Named Pearl"

Self-taught gardener Pearl Fryar was inspired to create topiaries after seeing a small trimmed spruce. While some residents initially didn’t want him in the neighborhood and even told Fryar, “Black people don’t keep up their yards,” he went on to become the first African American to win the local Yard of the Month award. “You don’t let no obstacles become what determines where you go,” he affirms. Today, the magical Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden draws visitors from around the world. Meet the man named Pearl in this inspiring documentary about what one person can achieve when he is allowed the full expression of his humanity. The movie night is free, though you’ll need to register to join us:
