Overview

Event with live music, food and unique art sales to support nonprofit’s workforce development program BALTIMORE—Art with a Heart—a non-profit arts organization based in Hampden—will host a celebration, Friday, August 10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at its social enterprise/retail store, HeARTwares (3000 Falls Road, Mill No. 1, Baltimore, MD, 21211) in Hampden. This free event will feature live music from Beatles cover band the Mahoney Brothers; food and drinks from Zeffert & Gold, and a community art project. Guests also can purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, jewelry, house ware items, garden ornaments and assorted gifts handmade by Art with a Heart program participants and volunteers. All proceeds will support Art with a Heart’s workforce development program, HeARTworks, now in its 13th year. Participating youth (ages 14-24) work at HeARTwares producing marketable art and receiving a daily stipend contingent upon attendance and timeliness. While gaining real job experience and compensation, the youth learn how to comply with rules and procedures of a jobsite, work in a retail store and interact with the public in a meaningful and appropriate manner. About Art with a Heart/HeARTwares Art with a Heart’s mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. Founded in 2000, the non-profit brings its visual art programs into schools, shelters, group homes, community centers, recreation centers, permanent housing facilities, hospitals and senior facilities. It has grown from four small classes a week to more than 11,500 a year, along with many community-wide projects and public art initiatives. Founded in 2010, HeARTwares operates Monday through Friday: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, from 12 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 12 to 5 p.m. All sale proceeds are shared between Art with a Heart and the artist or community partner.
