Overview

What were the vacation options for African Americans in the Jim Crow Era? Author Patsy M. Fletcher and Architectural Historian Anne Bruder will share with us tourist attractions from parks, resorts and beach communities that African Americans frequented in the Maryland Region. Ms. Bruder will discuss the Negro Travelers’ Green Book, the well-known travel guide used by African Americans during the mid-20th century. The event will conclude with a signing of Ms. Fletcher’s book, Historically African American Leisure Destinations Around Washington, DC.
