Overview

The community will explode with creative energy when students, artists, educators, performers, administrators, faculty, and agency professionals gather to celebrate the impact of art and arts education throughout Maryland. First Lady Yumi Hogan, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh and Maryland Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon will kick off the festival at the Washington Monument at 11:30 a.m. All events are free to the public. For a schedule and more information, you can visit bestofmdartsed.com. Student Artists and Maryland Arts Alumni from across the state will exhibit their work throughout the day. Festival attendees can rotate between the five, walkable performance venues for a non-stop schedule of music, dance, theater, creative writing, visual arts, and media arts. Free & Open to the Public www.bestofmdartsed.org Event partners: Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland State Arts Council, Arts Education in Maryland Schools Alliance, Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts, Young Audiences of Maryland and Mount Vernon Place Conservancy Venue partners: Baltimore Center Stage, Walters Art Museum, Peabody Conservatory, Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, and Saint Ignatius Church. Schedule 11:00am OPENING CEREMOY The Opening Ceremony take place at centerpiece of Mount Vernon, the Washington Monument. Key speakers include First Lady Yumi Hogan, Mayor Catherine Pugh, Superintendent Dr. Karen Salmon of Maryland State Department of Education and local arts advocates. 12:00pm-5:00pm ROTATING PERFORMANCES Rotating student and alumni performances and masterclasses in all arts disciplines will be presented allowing performers and the public to create their own pathway through the day.
