Overview

In honor of Black History Month, the Mobtown Ballroom is bringing The Harlem Swing Dance Society to lead a FREE Illustrated Jazz and dance Lecture on the roots and fruits of Lindy Hop, one of America’s first and famous dance art forms. Presentation will include film clips about the dance and its history makers, and audience Q & A. Addressed topics include common myths about racial dynamics in the Lindy Hop world today. Through discussing the connection between history, Lindy Hop, Hand Dance, and other dance forms such as the areas Hand Dance culture. This workshop will illustrate the importance of Black people having ownership in, and access to, their own culture and history. In addition after the workshop there will be a lesson in basic Lindy Hop/Swing Dance and Jazz steps so one can incorporate the old classic jazz steps with new steps and new music. So join us for the History and the Fun!
