Overview

Stinger Pictures presents Dear Sylvia, a poignant documentary exploring the effects of drama therapy on the aging mind, and the sadness and joy that comes with caring for the elderly. It was an official selection of the 2017 Capital City Film Festival, and a finalist at the 2017 New York Film and TV Festival. The film marks the final appearance of Sylvia Gassel, the Broadway and film actress who worked closely with Joseph Papp in the early days of Shakespeare in the Park. The film asks viewers to consider their perceptions of dementia by presenting Sylvia’s brilliance and the moral quandaries involved in caring for family members who have memory loss. Dear Sylvia, produced in 2016, is the first feature documentary from Stinger Pictures. Its executive producer and director Evan Margolis is a University of Baltimore College Park graduate and Baltimore native. Audiences have described the documentary as “tears one moment, belly laughs the next,” and “a marvelous film, especially for those of us considering our own humanity.” Date: Tuesday, June 6, 2017 Time: 7pm -9pm, Doors open 6:30pm Location: Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, 7 South Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202, corner of Calvert and Redwood Streets downtown, about two blocks from the Inner Harbor Parking: We recommend the nearby Arrow Parking Garage, at the corner of Lombard and Calvert, entrances on Lombard and on Water Streets.
