Overview

“Sushi is like French fries,” says Tyson Cole of Uchi (Austin TX). “It's best eaten right when you make it.” Let’s make some sushi, arguably Japan’s most popular cuisine, worldwide, at Baltimore Chef Chop,”the teaching kitchen.” No need to look for a plus-one. Get out with Mixolo and find your plus-some. We're the solo-friendly social network. Explore the “yin and yang” of the art of making sushi. Baltimore Chef Shop is sharing the ancient (way way back) secrets behind that often elusive “perfect rice” (arguably as important as the fish). Of course, every ingredient that goes into that mouth-watering bite of a finished roll often lends itself to a meticulous process. Sound intimidating? Not anymore!Baltimore Chef Shop has demystified this complex, yet simple cuisine and they want to help you “Make Your Own Sushi” You get to eat it, too! This is not just for sushi lovers. We’re calling all sushi skeptics, too. Cooking and learning new things unlocks your creativity and curiosity; you may find yourself enjoying your own “Master” piece. As usual, we want you to order in, then go out with Mixolo. Maybe you’ll still want to visit your favorite Master sushi chef, but we promise you’ll leave with some cool new skills and fun memories. MORE ABOUT BALTIMORE CHEF SHOP: It makes perfect sense that the welcoming, and family-owned, Baltimore Chef Shop is located on “Foodie Avenue” in a beautifully re-imagined row uchi (the Japanese word for house) in the heart of Hampden. The storied 36th Street, or “The Avenue,” as it is affectionately called by locals - and now by top food writers and bloggers - is a food lover’s haven. Their teaching kitchen, open to all, offers dynamic “hands-on” cooking classes meant to elevate your cookery skills to new levels. Their professional and accomplished chefs pass on their proven techniques for best results. At Baltimore Chef Shop, you CAN do it. Their collaborative and interactive classes offer fun, non-threatening educational instruction in the kitchen. The class offerings are extensive and include globally-inspired cuisines, baking, canning and essential kitchen skills classes.Their two classroom kitchens can also accommodate private groups of varying sizes - or you can take over the entire facility (supervised, of course). Warning: you may experience bouts of kitchen envy. Their kitchen equipment and supplies are state-of-the-art but are meant for your (supervised) enjoyment. WHAT'S INCLUDED: Baltimore Chef Shop provides all ingredients, equipment, aprons, and tools. You’ll enjoy your sushi as well! Baltimore Chef Shop is a BYOB kitchen and does not sell alcoholic or other beverages. They provide cold water with citrus for all classes, and you are welcome to bring an alternative beverage to enjoy with your meal. They ’ll have a bucket of ice, glasses, and a corkscrew waiting for you! Please be advised that they are not able to allow spirits and hard liquor in their kitchen. HAVE AN ALLERGY? Baltimore Chef Shop is not a nut-free or gluten-free kitchen and is, unfortunately, unable to accommodate severe allergies to these ingredients. WHAT TO WEAR: As a safety consideration, Baltimore Chef Shop asks that you wear close-toed shoes. They advise pulling back long hair and avoiding wearing dangling jewelry or clothing that could get caught on another object. PARKING: The Hampden neighborhood offers metered parking on “The Avenue.” There is limited free street parking in residential areas but beware of restrictions. Please plan accordingly. This area can be quite busy in the evenings and on weekends. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Photos may be taken for promotional purposes for our web, social media and marketing materials.
