Pro Musica Rara, Baltimore’s premier early music ensemble, with Paul Leenhouts, recorder; Cynthia Roberts, violin; Dongsok Shin, harpsichord; and artistic director Allen Whear, cello. Bohemian Baroque. It has been said that one of Bohemia’s major exports has always been musicians. Eighteenth century Prague – the “Heart of Europe”—was a great crossroads of cultures, due to the reigning power of the Hapsburg dynasty. PMR’s program includes trio sonatas by 18th century Czech composers Jan Dismas Zelenka and Jan Zach, as well as influential Austrian contemporaries Franz Biber and Johann Schmelzer.
