Overview

The Reform Jewish synagogues of Baltimore will hold the Hoffberger Foundation for Torah Studies Scholar-in-Residence Weekend April 20 to 22 with Rabbi David Ruderman of the University of Pennsylvania. Ruderman will present four lectures. His second lecture, “Debate: Worship vs. Study,” will discuss the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Hasidism, who emphasized worship to connect to the Holy and people’s hearts, and the Gaon Elijah of Vilna, who felt learning would ensure the continuation of Judaism.
