Where to Play Golf in Baltimore

Have a few hours free? Take advantage of these public golf courses all less than an hour’s drive from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Baltimore is also home to a Topgolf location where you can get in some swings while enjoying food, drinks and other games.

Topgolf Baltimore

This isn’t your typical driving range. Topgolf offers climate controlled hitting bays, plenty of food and drink options, music and more. There are more than a dozen games to play to keep things interesting and the high-tech equipment will score itself. For those not interested in hitting golf balls, there is shuffleboard, foosball and other games to enjoy in the lounge. This location is right in between M&T Bank Stadium and Horseshoe Casino so you can keep the fun going.

Carroll Park Golf Course

Less than three miles from the Baltimore Convention Center, Carroll Park Golf Course has nine holes, perfect for the business traveler looking to get in a quick round. For those looking for something a little different, try a round of foot golf, a combination of golf and soccer.

Clifton Park Golf Course

The first public golf course in Baltimore, built in 1915, Clifton Park Golf Course boasts 18 holes and a panoramic view of the city. The delightful layout, built on the grounds of Johns Hopkins’ summer estate (founder and benefactor of the namesake hospital and university), provides a leisurely break from your adventures.

Mount Pleasant Golf Course

Mount Pleasant has a storied history—in 1956, Arnold Palmer nearly quit in the middle of a tournament here, but ended up winning his second professional US victory that day. After you’re done with your game, head to the nearby Belvedere Square for a bite to eat or some shopping.

The Woodlands

The Woodlands boasts a country club atmosphere in a public course set up. Golf course architect Lindsay Ervin called Woodlands his best design. The stunning course features tall, hardwood trees and rolling greens, as well as a full-service clubhouse that is shared with the adjacent Diamond Ridge course. Just a few miles outside the city, this course is not far from the scenic Patapsco State Park or historic Ellicott City.

Diamond Ridge

A neighbor to The Woodlands, with which it shares a clubhouse and practice facility, Diamond Ridge Golf Course boasts a links-feel front nine, with open spaces and lush bent grass fairways, while the tighter back nine is lined with mature trees. With challenging plays for golfers of all levels, Diamond Ridge has been a beloved golfing destination for more than 40 years.

Forest Park Golf Course

With hilly terrain, tight fairways and winding turns through wooded landscapes, the Forest Park course offers a challenge to newer and more experienced players alike. Just down the street is the Carrie Murray Nature Center in Gwynns Falls Leakin Park, which offers programming to teach you about native flora and fauna.

The Timbers at Troy Golf Course

Rated 4-stars by Golf Digest and one of the top 100 courses in the mid-Atlantic by Golfstyles magazine, The Timbers at Troy is 206 acres of rolling hills, mature trees, and meandering streams. The course underwent a renovation, including the installation of new sand traps, in 2017. After you’re done, head to nearby Arundel Mills for shopping, dining and entertainment all in one place, including Medieval Times, Mission Escape Room, Dave & Buster’s and Maryland Live! Casino.

Pine Ridge Golf Course

Host of several PGA and LPGA tournaments, Pine Ridge Golf Course boasts views of the Loch Raven Reservoir, which encompasses 5 miles of trails. Both beautiful and challenging, a visit to Pine Ridge is unlike any other golf experience in the Baltimore area.

Fox Hollow Golf Course

Fox Hollow’s driving range was named best in Baltimore by Baltimore Magazine in 2014 and has been named a Top 50 Public Driving Range in the U.S. for seven straight years by the GRAA (Golf Range Association of America). The range features more than 60 stations, including 20 covered, up lighting for evening practice and a wedge target course. This area, Timonium, is also home to a number of restaurants and shops you can check out on your way back into the city.

Compass Pointe Golf Course

With a total of 36 holes on two courses and one of the largest driving ranges in the region, Compass Pointe Golf Course was cited in Golf Magazine as one of the best value courses in Maryland. Kids under 15 play free on weekdays and before 1 p.m. on weekends with a paying adult.

Rocky Point Golf Course

With views of the Chesapeake Bay and a course that winds through natural wetlands, Rocky Point Golf Course provides a truly Maryland experience for the visiting golfer. The back nine is particularly challenging, but well worthwhile for the stunning views of the water.

Mountain Branch Golf Course

This true golf and entertainment destination offers a challenging 18-hole public course. The Grille Pub, among the area’s most popular restaurants, offers fabulous cuisine and relaxing ambiance. Mountain Branch features an indoor golfing facility with a simulator, putting green and lounge area. In this area, you’re not far from enjoying a glass of wine at Boordy Vineyards.

Greystone Golf Course

The tall hardwood trees, wetlands, seven ponds, native vegetation and elevation changes bring an abundance of character to Greystone’s championship course. The course offers a rare five par 3’s and five par 5’s creating a fun and different Par 72 adventure. Greystone also features a Family Tee area to help visitors of all ages enjoy the course. Afterwards, head to Inverness Brewing in Monkton to relax.

Bulle Rock Golf Course

Host of the LPGA Tournament from 2005-2009, Bulle Rock was created by noted course designer Pete Dye. The well-maintained course incorporates plenty of natural elements, much of the layout dictated by what was already there. In 2017, golf and travel blog The Dapper Drive said Bulle Rock has “less emphasis on impossible golf holes and more on a fair and fun test of golf.” Bulle Rock is located in the quaint historic waterfront town of Havre de Grace, an ideal spot to spend a few hours exploring.
