Parks & Recreation

Once the estate of Johns Hopkins, Clifton Park is home to an 18-hole golf course and an Italian villa-style mansion used as the golf course clubhouse and headquarters of Civic Works, a youth training program. Hopkins used the mansion as his summer retreat and it features an eighty-foot tower with a commanding view of Baltimore. Nearby is Lake Montebello with biking and walking paths surrounding the reservoir for scenic recreation.

The National Great Blacks In Wax Museum

America’s first wax museum of African American history and culture, the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum features more than 150 life-size and lifelike wax figures of influential African Americans such as Thurgood Marshall, Harriet Tubman and Jackie Robinson. Exhibits allow visitors to experience what it was like during the “Middle Passage” of the slave trade, traveling along the underground railroad and fighting for civil rights.

Handmade Innovation

One of Baltimore’s many maker spaces is Open Works, an organization dedicated to supporting the resurgence of Baltimore’s maker community. Open Works provides tools, technology, and the knowledge to use them for people of all experience and education levels. Memberships and classes are available for adults, teens and children to learn about things like 3-D printing, drones, embroidery, woodworking, welding and Photoshop.
