BALTIMORE, MD (March 14, 2016) – The Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) has selected Baltimore as the host city for the organization’s 2018 Annual Conference, which will take place August 24-28, 2018. SYTA is the nonprofit, professional trade association that promotes student and youth travel.
The SYTA Annual Conference is the premier marketplace for the student and youth travel industry to come together for networking, education and business trade meetings. SYTA tour operators, group travel planners and educational travel companies account for more than $1.5 billion in student and youth travel and provide travel experiences for over three million participants, including educational travel companies, travel agencies, hotels, destination marketing agencies, restaurants, attractions and more. The student and youth travel market currently represents 20 percent of all global tourism revenue within a $185 billion industry, accounting for more than 2 million trips taken by youth travelers annually.
“We are thrilled to bring the 2018 conference to Baltimore for the first time, and SYTA would like to thank Visit Baltimore and the Maryland Office of Tourism Development for their support throughout this selection process,” said Carylann Assante, CAE, executive director of SYTA and SYTA Youth Foundation. “We chose Baltimore for its student-friendly destination appeal, as the city is full of history, museums, world-class attractions and a rich culture. Baltimore’s central East Coast location and close proximity to BWI Airport was also instrumental in making this conference very accessible to attendees from all over the world.”
The 2018 conference is estimated to attract 1,100 attendees including tour operators (inbound and outbound); group travel planners; travel agents; international senders; receptive operators; and professionals from destination marketing organizations, convention and visitors bureaus, international tourism boards, hotels, attractions, restaurants, insurance, technology and transportation companies. The conference will utilize more than 3,055 hotel room nights and generate an estimated economic impact of $1.57 million.
