What It's Like

No matter your age, you’ll enjoy how Historic Ships portrays a snapshot of life at sea. Start at Pier 1 to explore artifacts of the USS Constellation. Walk the ship’s four decks to tour sailing operations and where the crew socialized. Next, head to Pier 3 to visit Lightship Chesapeake and USS Torsk, a submarine where over 80 sailors once lived. After, head to Pier 5 to check out the deck, bridge and officer’s quarters of the US Coast Guard Cutter Taney.

Don't Miss

Time your visit so you can experience the daily cannon firings at noon and 4 p.m. on the USS Constellation, and the almost-daily crew member talks at 1 p.m. Don’t miss the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, one of the oldest Chesapeake Bay lighthouses still in existence.

Plus, the USS Constellation invites visitors age 6 or older to come aboard to learn about the lives of the young boys who served as “powder monkeys” during the Civil War. Learn how recruits age 11 to 18 ferried gun powder throughout the ship. Powder Monkey tours are available for groups by appointment.
