Loyola's Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series with Nicholas Creary

As part of Loyola University Maryland’s Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series, Nicholas Creary, Ph.D., will present “The Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Moments of Accountability and Opportunities for Engagement” on Monday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. in the 4th Floor Program Room in the Andrew White Student Center. The talk will address the origins, work, and recommendations of the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Jesuits’ obligation for reparations to Maryland’s African American communities.

Creary co-founded and served as a commissioner on the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 2019 to 2026, which developed recommendations to confront and repair the legacy of racial terror lynchings in Maryland. He is a history instructor at Coppin State University and has taught at Georgetown University, Marquette University, and Ohio University. Creary wrote the books “Domesticating a Religious Import: The Jesuits and the Inculturation of the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe, 1879-1980” and “African Intellectuals and Decolonization.”
