Waterfall Dances: Jane Goodall in memoriam
Organist Douglas Buchanan offers music for organ inspired by the work of Jane Goodall.
“Waterfall Dances” takes its title from Jane Goodall’s observations of chimpanzees responding in ecstatic movement to the rushing of waterfalls and the thunder of rainstorms. The concert draws on music embodying dance and movement (“Volta Fantasy” by J. H. Kwabena Nketia and the Partita in D Major by J.S. Bach) as well as music depicting the natural world (Jonathan Dove’s “Niagara,” Judith Weir’s “The Trees Unfold,” and the world premiere of “Waterfall Dances” by Douglas Buchanan), inviting an experience of wonder and shared kinship with the natural world.
