Travelers’ Choice Awards

This honor recognizes 1% out of 8 million destinations that earned outstanding reviews from the Tripadvisor community over the past year! Here’s a peek at what they had to say: “Since the redevelopment of the Inner Harbor in the late 1970s, Baltimore has set the standard for urban renewal. While a good part of the city’s action centers around the fun and festive Harbor area, where street entertainers, open-air concerts, fireworks and parades abound, the surrounding neighborhoods offer all sorts of interesting landmarks, unique shops and delicious restaurants.”

Baltimore Is Making a Comeback—With Sleek Design Hotels and Bold New Dining

Travel + Leisure

Among the catalysts helping to invigorate Baltimore’s food scene is the redevelopment of its food markets, pillars of city life for more than 250 years. Among them is Lexington Market, which opened in the 18th century and moved into a glossy new downtown building in late 2022. The cavernous space, laid out over two floors, is a riot of international cuisine, with stalls selling everything from Malay to Dominican to Nepali. The redevelopment is giving new life to old stalwarts, too; the legendary Faidley’s Seafood, which opened in the market in 1886, has also made the move to the new digs.

The New York Times

“The Baltimore Museum of Art is increasing the presence of Native artists with solo shows, thematic exhibitions and changes to displays and labels across the museum; and Baltimore Peninsula, a place for visitors and locals to shop, dine and play, will breathe new life into a long-neglected port area. For outdoor enthusiasts, a network of waterways called the Baltimore Blueway — open to kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and rowboats — will connect visitors throughout the waterfront to cultural, historic and natural sites.”

The Best Places to Travel in 2023

AFAR Magazine

“From its early days as a thriving seaport to its current status as a seafood paradise, Baltimore is ever evolving. A $45 million overhaul of Lexington Market—billed as the oldest continuously operating public market in the country, with roots dating to 1782—recently welcomed visitors to an airy, light-filled space enlivened by 16-foot murals from local artist Ernest Shaw Jr. and photographs by Shan Wallace depicting Baltimore’s Black food culture. (This is, after all, a majority Black city.)”

Architectural Digest

“Steeped in history, Baltimore rewards exploration—from the chockablock rooms at the Walters Art Museum to the Matisse galleries at the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the breathtaking stacks at the Peabody Library. On a recent visit, a group of hard-to-please New Yorkers could be overheard asking themselves “what took us so long to get here?” quickly followed by “when are we coming back?”
