Azar Lawrence Quartet
The AZAR LAWRENCE QUARTET will be performing at Keystone Korner Baltimore on Friday and Saturday, July 29 & 30, with the wonderful pianist Robert Turner, bassist Michael Bowie and the exciting drummer Wes Lowery, as an integral part of our Keystone Korner 50th Anniversary Celebration!
In 1974, the great saxophonist Azar Lawrence blessed us all at the original Keystone Korner San Francisco as he was making the famous live Milestone recording “ATLANTIS” with the legendary pianist McCoy Tyner and his Quintet. Not only did Azar Lawrence levitate the Keystone with McCoy Tyner in the 1970s, he has continued to be one of the most powerfully compelling musical storytellers of the saxophone in all of modern music. Azar also performed at the memorable 45th Anniversary Concerts for Keystone Korner in the San Francisco Bay Area in July 2017 with fellow saxophonists Gary Bartz, Charles McPherson and Mel Martin swinging supremely with the all star rhythm section of Denny Zeitlin, Ray Drummond, Roy McCurdy and Kenneth Nash. Azar’s Band most recently got a standing ovation at their Hollywood Bowl concert performance.
