Join in a free celebration honoring one of history’s greatest visionaries, Martin Luther King Jr. AVAM is open and free from 10 AM – 5 PM!
SCHEDULE:
10 AM to noon Hands are for Helping Wearable Art Workshop JRVC 3rd floor
– Helping hands can accomplish anything! How can you help the world? Create a hand shaped pin and share out how you can help!
1 PM Open Mic and Poetry Slam JRVC 3rd floor
– Register for our open mic on site, prior to 1:00PM, cash prizes awarded.
2 PM & 2:30 PM Jess Owens Young Artist Talk JRVC 2nd floor Classroom
– Join us for a special artist talk with “Good Sports” featured artist Jess Owens-Young. A Maryland native, Jess creates joyful, imaginative, portraits using paint, charcoal and even scrapbook paper.
3 PM Keur Khaleyi African Dancers JRVC 1st floor
– Sharing traditions of African singing, dancing and drumming, Keur Khaleyi performs and invites the audience to participate!
All day:
– Docent tour guides in the galleries
– Explore the galleries with a special scavenger hunt
– Collecting new, unopened toiletries and self-care items for House of Ruth, most needed items: toothpaste, deodorant, bar soap, toilet paper, paper towels, wet wipes, dish soap, sponges.
