1,000 Cigarettes + 3 Readings: A pop-up art show opening & AWP off-site reading

On Thursday, March 5th from 4 – 7 p.m., Baltimore-based writer and editor Nate Brown, who began painting cigarettes in the fall of 2025 and hasn’t stopped yet, will exhibit 1,000 of his 4”x6” gouache cigarette paintings and a number of larger works. These are goofy, intimate studies of habit, memory, and place—and they’re intended to be affordable and accessible. All work is priced between $20 and $60. This pop-up gallery experience is paired with a literary reading showcasing Nashville-based fiction writer Lydi Conklin and Baltimore poets Jane Lewty and Sylvia Jones.

Also on hand will be Pangea Printing, selling some of the best Baltimore swag, and Greedy Reads will have books available by all the readers that evening.

Opening Thursday, March 5 from 4 – 7 p.m., with the readings at 5 p.m.
Subsequent Gallery Hours: Friday, March 6 + Saturday, March 7 from 1 – 4 p.m.
