1916 Rising: Docks, Dollars, and Defiance on American Shores

Home Events 1916 Rising: Docks, Dollars, and Defiance on American Shores

While the 1916 Rising took place in the streets of Ireland, the “American Shore” provided the essential support that sustained the movement. From public meetings in social halls across New York and Chicago to the grassroots organizing in Baltimore, the diaspora mobilized a massive network of fundraising and advocacy that bridged the Atlantic.

Join us for an immersive walkthrough of this history. Step into the world of 1916 to explore the community networks of the “American Front,” participate in a living memorial for the fallen, and see the documented legacy of the public defiance and relief efforts that followed the Rising.

This is a day to explore how everyday people across the country organized to support a cause a world away and how that legacy still resonates today.
