A Night of Percussive Dance & Square Dancing
A Night of Percussive Dance & Square Dancing
Friday, April 4 @ Music on the Square presented in collaboration with Baltimore Square Dance.
Join us for a high-energy night of music, movement, and community! Longtime friends Becky Hill, percussive dance extraordinaire, and Ben Nelson team up with the dynamic Hannah Johnson—a powerhouse fiddler and dance caller—for an evening that celebrates Appalachian traditions while pushing their boundaries.
The night kicks off with a riveting first set featuring Becky’s percussive dance as a driving rhythmic force alongside Ben’s masterful banjo and Hannah’s fiddling and droning pump organ. Together, they weave intricate arrangements of traditional tunes that highlight the deep interplay between melody and movement.
Then, get ready to hit the dance floor! The second half of the night transforms into a rip-roaring square dance called by Hannah, Ben and Becky, where all are welcome—no experience necessary! This dance is being presented by the Baltimore Square Dance. Whether you’re an old-time music lover, a seasoned dancer, or just curious to join in, this is your chance to stomp, swing, and reel with friends old and new.
During the break, bring a snack to share! Let’s keep the energy high and the community strong.
Don’t miss this unforgettable night of rhythm, music and dance!
