A Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron: The Revolution is Here, presented by Joe Keyes & The Late Bloomer Band, brings the spirit of icon Gil Scott-Heron to today’s audiences with an unmatched excitement and passion. “A scientist who is concerned with the origin of the blues,” Gil Scott-Heron, a self-proclaimed “bluesologist,” was a spoken word artist who fused jazz, blues and soul with lyrics relative to social and political issues of the turbulent 70s and 80s. His collaborative efforts with musician Brian Jackson, combined both rapping and melodic vocals and with his smooth performance styles and on point perspective made him an artist whose work is still relevant today. “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, one of his most popular poems, is delivered over a jazz-soul beat and considered a major influence on hip hop music. In recent years, the poem has been looked upon as a prophetic and timely message.
