Join Aquí Seguimos curators Alana Guzman and Marah Abdel Jaber in conversation with guest moderator Alexander Aviña as they dissect the necessity to create art under annihilation while honoring the 44th anniversary of the Sabra & Shatila Massacre and 216 years of Mexican Independence. Reflecting on these simultaneous commemorations of immense grief and joy, our curators discuss the material histories of colonial violence, resistance, and liberation that underscore Aquí Seguimos and unify our communities.

GUEST MODERATOR: 
ALEX AVIÑA
Alex Aviña is an Associate Professor of History at Arizona State University. He is author of Specters of Revolution: Peasant Guerrillas in the Cold War Mexican Countryside (Oxford University Press, 2014). He is currently writing a book on the connected histories of state terrorism, political violence and drug wars in 1970s Mexico (under contract with the University of California Press).

CURATORS: 
MARAH ABDEL JABER
Marah Abdel Jaber is a Palestinian writer, researcher, and creative. Her work focuses on constructions of the Palestinian nation, literature, agriculture, and imaginative movements. She holds an M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago and is a Fellow of the Institute for Palestine Studies.

ALANA GUZMAN
Alana Guzmán is a Mexican oil painter, born and raised in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and now based in Washington, DC. Drawing from her cultural roots and immigrant experience, her work delves into the emotional tension between beauty and brutality, survival and surrender. Through vivid color and dynamic movement, she creates paintings that hold space for the contradictions and complexities of being alive.

Aquí Seguimos: A Legacy of Love and a History of Resistance is a collaborative group exhibition and fundraiser honoring the connection between Mexican and Palestinian communities. Rooted in contemporary art, this show aims to honor the radical act of imagining liberation while living with the weight of the histories we inherit and the reality we endure.
