Baltimore Still Rising

The upcoming community event, Baltimore Still Rising, combines the power of storytelling through a documentary screening with a thought-provoking panel discussion. This event features activists who were directly involved during the 2015 Uprising and highlights the transformative journey from Protest to Policy.

The narratives shared in Baltimore Still Rising resonate deeply with the trailblazing work of Black social work pioneers such as Ida B. Wells-Barnett, E. Franklin Frazier, and Dorothy Height—figures who understood the intersection of systemic injustice, grassroots activism, and policy reform. Just as these leaders used their voices and actions to challenge inequality, this event centers on the voices of 20 Baltimore residents who share personal stories and first-hand accounts of the aftermath of Freddie Gray’s death in 2015. Their courage and resilience echo the enduring spirit of those who paved the way for change in our communities.

The Baltimore Legacy Project, captures the raw emotions and strength that defined Baltimore’s response to injustice. It is not just a reflection of past struggles but a call to action for the ongoing fight for justice and equity—values deeply ingrained in the foundations of social work.
