Baltimore Symphony Orchestra - Copland and a New American Symphony

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Jonathon Heyward, brings together three distinct voices in American music. The program opens with the world premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff’s Symphony No. 6, commissioned by the BSO, before principal clarinetist YaoGuang Zhai takes the spotlight in Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, whose spacious melodies meet jazz-inflected rhythms. Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 15, “Lincoln,” completes the program. For listeners drawn to fresh orchestral work alongside two celebrated composers, this concert offers a vivid encounter with music shaped by American stories and sounds.
