Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: James Conlon - Bernstein's Kaddish
Stunning music and profound words combine to awaken our collective dreams of peace and freedom. In Leonard Bernstein’s Kaddish Symphony, the Hebrew prayer for times of bereavement sparks a heated exploration of spirit and fate, a testament made all the more poignant with updated words by a Holocaust survivor Samuel Pisar (narrated here by his family). Artistic Advisor James Conlon, leading a heart-wrenching score by the German-Jewish composer Franz Schreker, explores the latest in his series of Recovered Voices, honoring composers silenced by Nazi regime.
