Highlights include the rarely seen short film, “Superartist, Andy Warhol” a mid-1960s tongue-in-cheek documentary showing the artist at work, explaining his point of view, his environment, and his image. Warhol and his actors are shown making a film and passing a typical day. Scenes include a satirical sequence where Warhol’s work is “evaluated” by a curator from of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, kids playing with his mylar clouds at the Leo Castelli Gallery and superstar Edie Sedgwick, but we think the silly experimental style of this oddball film is really what makes it special.
Another favorite is “Aliens from Inner Space”. This 1984 episode of BBC’s Wildlife on One goes deep into the fascinating (and adorable) cephalopods like cuttlefish, highlighting the sophistication of their brains, their clever behaviors, and their ability to dynamically change color and pulsate lights for communication. Great cinematography and synth soundtrack. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, who is still at it and recently turned 100.
Other short films include “Sound for Beginners”, “Magic Rites: Divination by Animal Tracks”, “Seasons and Days”, “An American Time Capsule”, and “Az ebéd” (The Lunch)”. Full descriptions in the link, and surprise trailers and film fragments are always possible.
