Embrace Spontaneity: A 2-Hour Intro to Improv Workshop

Join our 2-hour in-person workshop, “Embrace Spontaneity: Intro to Improv.” It’s a low-pressure, fun experience designed for newcomers. Connect with others through introductions, establish boundaries, and engage in energizing warmups, games, and collaborative scenes. No experience necessary – come discover the joy of improv and unleash your creativity!

Get ready to embark on a low-pressure, fun-filled adventure that will unleash your creativity, boost your confidence, and ignite your sense of playfulness.

Led by our experienced and supportive instructors, this workshop is tailored to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you can step outside your comfort zone. We’ll begin with a boundary check-in, where we establish guidelines for respect, trust, and collaboration. Then we’ll dive into engaging improv warmups and games, designed to ignite your imagination, enhance your listening skills and unlock your spontaneity.

Through interactive exercises and guided scene work, you’ll discover the joy of working together, building on each other’s ideas, and creating compelling scenes on the spot.

No prior experience in acting or improv is necessary. This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who are new to improv. Whether you’re seeking a fun and unique experience, a chance to improve your communication skills, or simply a break from everyday routine, “Embrace Spontaneity” is the workshop for you!

About your instructors:

Misty Letts (she/they) stepped into the improv pool 6 years ago and has not looked back. She got her footing at Baltimore Improv Group through curriculum and workshops from various BIG instructors of the form. Digging into opportunities to learn from so much talent including Don Fanelli (UCB), Kate Zelensky (UCB), and Travis Charles Ploeger (iMusical- WIT). She has also enjoyed playing with Maryland Improv Collective and can presently be found camped out on Highwire’s front stoop. Misty she’s and is also a they/them and can be found on two wheels tooling about town, so drive carefully!

Kristen McKenzie (she/her) is an improviser, educator, and founding board member of Highwire Improv. Originally from Charleston, SC, she has lived in Baltimore for more than ten years. She has trained with Baltimore Improv Group, and the Magnet and PIT in NYC. She enjoys all kinds of improv but dramatic improv has a special place in her heart. She believes improv is a consent based art form and is passionate about creating improv spaces for everyone. She performs regularly with her troupes Babeprov, Local Spot, Important Screws, Topiary, and Whatever This Is. When not improvising she enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her husband Barry and their three beautiful cats.
