HISTORY: FROM THE COMMUNITY:
Early morning, December 15 2025, Falkenhan’s Hardware at 3401 Chestnut Avenue suffered a fire, causing a cease of operations. They are currently in the process of rebuilding.

Since 1968, Falkenhan’s has operated on the corner of Chestnut & 34th streets, the business before them since 1890. In 1998, the incomparable Deb Falkenhan took over the family business. She was a stay at home mom to who would become the zen master of all things nuts, screws and fittings. And, like many in the 90’s, knew nothing about running a hardware store. There is one thing that Deb did know incredibly well and that was kindness. Every single time you walk into Falkenhan’s Hardware, you feel special.

Here we have one of the last grasps of classic Americana left in our city, a vital resource to the North Baltimore community where workers, renters and home owners alike flock to for solutions. You can walk in with a screw and get four matching ones for thirty cents, heat lamps for the restaurant, a replacement valve for the plumbing miracle you are about to achieve and stuff for all of your gardens both inside and out. I’m asked if I need help more than once every time I’m there. It’s glorious. The employees at Falkenhan’s are irreplaceable.

On March 9 at Union Craft Brewing from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. we are holding a fundraiser for the employees of Falkenhan’s Hardware. They have been displaced and we want to make sure they know we care and of course in all of our self interests, that they return to the best store in Baltimore when it is time. Please reach out with any questions to [email protected]
