Improv + Music: Musical Improv Game Jam at Baltimore Improv Group

Let’s enjoy a goofy, musical time with one another. Let’s jam!! Let’s play musical games!

Join us for a goofy, musical afternoon with Baltimore Musical Improv at the Baltimore Improv Group! Whether you’re new to musical improv or have some experience, this is your chance to relax, have fun, and play a variety of musical improv games—for free!

What to Expect
This jam session is a laid-back gathering where we play musical and music-related improv games.

Who’s It For? Everyone! Whether you’ve taken a class, attended a workshop, or are brand new to improv, you’re welcome here.

We’ll go over the rules before each game so everyone can jump right in. It’s all about having fun and being silly together.

What is Musical Improv?
Musical improv is a form of improv where participants create songs and music on the spot, usually based on a suggestion or a situation. It combines the freedom of improvisation with the creativity of music, allowing players to sing, create melodies, and make up lyrics as they go.

It’s all about being playful, letting go of perfection, and enjoying the process of creating something new together, all in real-time!

Parking & Accessibility
Free street parking is available near the venue.

Someone will greet you at the entrance before and shortly after the start. If you arrive late, message us on WhatsApp (link below), or try knocking—though we might be too loud to hear!

Stay Connected
General chat: Join our WhatsApp group to ask questions or meet others before the jam.

Volunteer opportunities: Join the volunteers chat to help with future events.

Baltimore Musical Improv wants to bring musical improv to anyone and everyone who is interested. Part of that mission involves hosting events where we can all just relax and play a whole bunch of musical improv games just for the fun of it.

We are a peer group of volunteers who love making fun events and sharing them with others. Our goal is to bring people together to enjoy musical improv, create new friendships, and play some silly, music-filled games.

How is this different from a workshop?
Unlike Baltimore Musical Improv’s monthly workshop, this jam session does not focus on teaching a specific topic or technique through structured lessons. Instead, this jam is a looser gathering where we all get to play a variety of musical and music-related improv games. Don’t worry—we’ll go over the rules before each game so anyone can jump right in!

This jam session is split into several parts. The first hour will include introductions and warmups, leading into a large batch of different musical improv games picked by the facilitator. After a short break, the second hour will feature a full run of a musical improv show, time for musical games suggested by anyone attending, and a cooldown game to wrap things up!

What if I arrive late?
Someone from the group will wait outside at the entrance before (and a little after) the event starts to welcome you in. If you’re running late, you can message the group on WhatsApp (details below) and someone can let you in. Good old-fashioned knocking works too, though we might be too loud to hear it!

How do you ensure a safe and welcoming space?
Lastly, we prioritize the physical, artistic, and psychological safety of our community members, and recognize we all have a part in actively building a safe and supportive environment for every single person. We encourage you to report any feedback to Baltimore Improv Group via https://www.bigimprov.org/contact

Is this event for me?
Absolutely! Come join us for some low-stakes yet high-energy musical fun. We promise it will be an enjoyable time, whether you join in for tons of games or just a few. Let’s enjoy a goofy, musical time with one another. Let’s jam!

Are there age restrictions?
All classes and workshops are for participants ages 18 and older unless otherwise specified.
