Jazz on The Rails - Juneteenth Celebration
On Saturday June 17th, 2023, The Steven P. Vann Foundation is presenting the 1st Annual Jazz on The Rails (JOTR) Juneteenth Celebration at the B&O Railroad Museum Baltimore, Maryland.
This event will be a celebration of the past, present, and future contributions of front-line rail and transit employees in the industry.
The inspiration for JOTR was inspired to connect rail and transit to the history of great jazz musicians and composers such as Count Basie’s 9:20 Special, Duke Ellington’s Daybreak Express, Take the A-Train and many more.
JOTR will provide an opportunity for individuals to learn the history of The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers on The B&O Railroad. The journey of Henry Box Brown and William and Ellen Craft individuals who sought freedom from slavery long the B&O Railroad.
