Lecture | Artist Cindy Cheng

Home Events Lecture | Artist Cindy Cheng

Cindy Cheng explores the relationship between drawings and objects through installation and complex constructions. Cheng likes thinking about how both natural and built structures may act as an incubator for narrative, memory and reflections on the physical and abstract self. She writes: “Everything that I do is based around failure… with sculpture, I’m functioning at the edge of my ability and the edge of my understanding of material.” In addition to exhibiting and publishing widely, Cheng was a finalist for the 2016 Trawick Prize, won the Sondheim Prize in 2017 and in 2018 was awarded a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant. She earned a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an M.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Enjoy the Memento Amare, Memento Mori, Memento Manducare & Sacred Wonder exhibitions and reception following the presentations.
