May 11, 2023 at 8 p.m: Royal Wedding (Silent Movie)
American sibling song-and-dance team Tom and Ellen Bowen are in London in 1947, when all of England is in a tizzy over the impending nuptials of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Ellen falls head over heels for the dashing Lord John Brindale, and Tom becomes equally smitten with the elegant Anne Ashmond. The film features one of Astaire’s most legendary dance performances, dancing across the ceiling of a hotel room.
May 18, 2023 at 8 p.m: Carmen Jones
The tale of the cigarette-maker Carmen and the Spanish cavalry soldier Don Jose is translated into a modern-day story of a parachute factory worker and a stalwart GI named Joe who is about to go to flying school. Conflict arises when a prize-ring champ captures the heart of Carmen after she has seduced Joe and caused him to go AWOL. Carmen remains a flamboyant flirt and ends up being strangled by the soldier.
May 25, 2023 at 8 p.m: Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Based on Truman Capote’s novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry.
May 29, 2023 at 8 p.m: Yankee Doodle Dandy
A musical portrait of composer/singer/dancer George M. Cohan. From his early days as a child-star in his family’s vaudeville show up to the time of his comeback at which he received a medal from the president for his special contributions to the US, this is the life- story of George M. Cohan, who produced, directed, wrote and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed his famous songs.
